Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival at your accommodation for the week

Upon your arrival in the Algarve, we will collect you, equip you with your bikes and take you to your choice of accommodation. This can be anything from a peaceful, self-catering cottage just outside Loule, to a five star hotel in Quinta do Lago. You tell us your preference and we will organise the rest.

Day 2  Guided Tour – Ria Formosa

From the luxury and glamour that is Quinta do Lago to the salt flats and the local charm of the Praia de Faro, this is a gentle introduction to your cycling holiday. Your guide will transfer you to the start of the ride, which takes you through the Ria Formosa, a UNESCO heritage site, home to an abundant array of plants and wildlife. Cycling through pine woodland, surrounded by freshwater lakes and salt marshes, with views across the lagoon to the Atlantic Ocean, we make our way to Praia de Faro (Faro Beach). This is a 3 to 4 hour tour.

Day 3 Self-guided tour/Rest Day

We have a number of options for self-guided tours which can be tailored to your needs. They range from easy to challenging and can take in some of the fabulous coastal routes or transport you inland to the rural countryside, where time seems to have stood still. We provide you with maps/GPS and detailed route notes. Alternatively you can use this day to explore some of the many sights around the Algarve. Or, for an additional cost, we can arrange an extra guided tour.

Day 4 Guided tour – Eastern Algarve

This tour is designed to show you the ‘real’, unspoilt Eastern Algarve. Starting in the quaint town of Moncarapacho, with cobbled streets and traditional houses, we head East along quiet, largely traffic free roads and dirt tracks. We pass though orange groves, sleepy Algarvean villages and scenic countryside before arriving in Tavira, one of the prettiest towns on the Algarve coast. We make our way back through the Ria Formosa, passing through Santa Luzia, famous for Octopus fishing. This is a 3 to 4 hour tour.

Day 5 Self-guided tour/Rest Day

We have a number of options for self-guided tours which can be tailored to your needs. They range from easy to challenging and can take in some of the fabulous coastal routes or transport you inland to the rural countryside, where time seems to have stood still. Or, for an additional cost, we can arrange an extra guided tour.

Day 6 Guided tour – Alcantarilha to Silves

Starting in Alcantarilha, a small village of Moorish origin, we are soon onto quiet dirt tracks cycling past vineyards and orange groves and down towards the Rio Arade. The area north of the river is traditional Algarve countryside at its unspoilt best. You will spot traditional stone walls and the odd derelict farm along the way. We cut across country using a network of irrigation channels before arriving in Silves, once the Moorish capital. We cycle along the river and past rice fields back to our starting point. This tour lasts around 4 hours.
